Commercial Exploitation Strategy Roadmap

This workshop is designed to support RDI project teams in creating an exploitation strategy roadmap for the three most essential Key Exploitable Results (KERs). By utilizing a canvas, this workshop will help you outline a clear and actionable plan to exploit your KERs effectively. By leveraging the comprehensive data and insights from your various workshops, you can create a well-rounded exploitation strategy that aligns with your project’s needs and goals, ensuring a strategic and effective approach to bringing your KERs to market or societal application.

The purpose of this workshop is to assist RDI teams in systematically developing exploitation strategies for their KERs. Building on the previous workshop, the exploitation roadmap will guide you through the necessary steps, milestones, and resources required to bring your KERs to market or societal application and will leverage the results from other workshops.

Project/TRI representatives and diverse stakeholders already familiar with the theme from academia, industry, government, and civil society. Ensure a mix of perspectives, expertise, and roles within each sector. Works best with a group of 10-15 participants.

  1. Pre-workshop preparation:
    • Define and Validate KERs: Review the outputs and outcomes of your project to identify potential KERs. Select the three most essential KERs for this workshop. Ensure these KERs have significant potential for exploitation.
    • Gather Initial Data: Collect relevant data on market trends, potential stakeholders, and regulatory environments for the chosen KERs.
    • Prepare Workshop Materials: Prepare the exploitation strategy roadmap canvas, which will be used to outline the steps, milestones, and resources needed for each KER. Gather example case studies and templates for action planning to facilitate discussions during the workshop.
  2. Conduct the Exploitation Strategy Roadmap Workshop:
    • Present the workshop objectives and agenda and explain the exploitation strategy roadmap canvas.
    • Provide a brief overview of the three chosen KERs, highlighting their objectives, potential impact, and current status.
  3. Developing the Exploitation Strategy Roadmap:
    • Use the Exploitation Strategy Roadmap Canvas to outline the steps, milestones, and resources needed for each KER.
    • Fill in the canvas with detailed information for each section, including market analysis, stakeholder engagement, regulatory considerations, and commercialization strategies.
  4. Group Discussion:
    • Encourage participants to discuss and refine the exploitation roadmaps for each KER.
    • Use real or virtual post-its to visualize and categorize the points on the canvas.
    • Reflect on the feasibility of the action plans and make adjustments as needed.
    • Consider strategies to optimize and strengthen the exploitation plans based on the identified insights.
    • Ask the participants to reflect on the time/funding resources required to implement the exploitation roadmap. Identify and assign responsible organizations or work packages for each action where possible.
  • Document the completed exploitation strategy roadmaps and the resulting action plans. Share this summary document with all participants.
  • Use the exploitation roadmaps to guide the implementation of the exploitation strategies for each KER.
  • Establish a monitoring and evaluation framework to track the progress and effectiveness of the exploitation roadmaps.
  • Regularly review the progress and make adjustments as needed.

By following these steps, you can develop a comprehensive and actionable exploitation strategy roadmap for your chosen KERs. This process ensures that your strategies are aligned with your project’s needs and goals, leading to a more strategic and effective approach to exploitation.
